A practice-oriented Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering taught in German at the Gießen campus over seven semesters. The programme suits students who want a broad engineering foundation with the option to specialise in general mechanical engineering, vehicle systems technology or measurement and automation technology and who plan to work in modern, increasingly digitalised industrial environments.

What you'll study

The degree begins with a three-semester technical-scientific foundation covering core engineering basics and natural sciences, then moves into application-oriented and project-focused specialist teaching. First-semester modules include Mathematics 1, Technical Mechanics 1, CAD/technical product documentation basics, Technical Thermodynamics 1, Natural Science fundamentals and an orientation project. Second- and third-semester modules add Mathematics 2, Technical Mechanics 2, Basics of Design, Thermodynamics 2, Materials Technology 1 and 2, Business and law introduction, Measurement Technology 1, Informatics, Machine Elements 1, Technical Fluid Mechanics, Electrotechnics and Project Management. From semester four students choose one of three specialisations: Allgemeiner Maschinenbau (General Mechanical Engineering), Fahrzeugsystemtechnik (Vehicle Systems Technology) or Mess- und Automatisierungstechnik (Measurement and Automation Technology). Later semesters mix advanced modules, laboratory work, project-based assessments, company internships and a bachelor thesis. The programme lists per-semester modules and credits in the module handbook and requires a professional/practical phase and a final thesis with colloquium in semester seven.

Entry requirements

The course language is German. The programme is listed as Zulassungsfrei (no numerus clausus). Study start is possible in both summer and winter semesters at the Gießen campus.
