What you'll study

Students deepen content and pedagogical knowledge in core SoR areas, including phonics, phonemic awareness, language structure, comprehension, writing, and appropriate use of assessment. Coursework is intended to prepare candidates to apply SoR instruction across early childhood, elementary, and special education settings. Program-specific course codes listed include EDRE-515, EDRE-525, EDRE-535, and EDRE-545.

Entry requirements

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree from a U.S. Department of Education- and CHEA-recognized institution; foreign transcripts may require external evaluation (student pays fees).
• Undergraduate GPA of 2.75+ (on the baccalaureate) with at least 30 hours completed at that institution, or graduate GPA of 3.0+ from a master’s-granting institution.
• Current employment in or access to a P–12 public, non-public, or international school.
• Submission of a signed School of Integrated Learning and Development FERPA release form.

Career prospects

Completers are prepared to function as K–12 literacy coaches or reading specialists and may pursue an Indiana literacy endorsement with reciprocity to other states. Graduates may also continue toward a master’s program or apply SoR practices within their existing classroom roles.
