A 13-credit, fully online, self-designed graduate-level certificate that lets learners build a transdisciplinary program tailored to professional or personal goals. Suited to reflective, self-directed students who want focused, graduate-level study without committing to a full master’s degree and who aim to enhance teaching, research, or move into a new field.

What you'll study

The certificate requires three elements totaling 13 credits:

  • Foundations of Individualized Certificate — 3 credits (course listed: 5003: Foundations in Individualized Study)
  • Seminars, Intra-University courses, or Self-Design courses — 9 credits selected with faculty guidance
  • Certificate Project — 1 credit capstone demonstrating the self-designed focus

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent recognized under regional accreditation; Antioch Online accepts Bologna Declaration degrees. Required materials include official transcripts and an online application (no application fee). Optional items and expectations include two current professional references (one ideally from a professor) and a 500-word admissions essay describing the individualized specialization and objectives. No GMAT/GRE is required. International applicants may need to demonstrate English proficiency via a reading & writing assessment or TOEFL (550 paper / 214 computer / 79 internet) if applicable. Application materials can be submitted by email to [email protected] or mailed to the Antioch University Admissions Office in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Career prospects

The certificate can support advancement in an existing career or prepare learners for a change in direction. It is particularly useful for those seeking to strengthen teaching and research skills, broaden expertise in interdisciplinary inquiry, or pursue roles that require integrative, transdisciplinary thinking. Outcomes depend on the specialization students design and how they apply the certificate alongside professional experience.
