Entry requirements

• Baccalaureate or graduate degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education and CHEA.
• One of the following academic/experience options: a) baccalaureate with a minimum 3.0 GPA; b) baccalaureate with at least 2.50 GPA plus five years of professional experience in an education-related field; or c) baccalaureate and proof of passing Indiana’s approved content area exam for the intended teaching subject.
• Proof of up-to-date TB test; signed Field Placement Requirement Notification; criminal history background check meeting School of Integrated Learning and Development guidelines; signed FERPA release.
• Applicants should be prepared for additional background checks and facility vaccine record requests required by outside placements; Indiana law may require expanded background checks for those working with students.

Career prospects

On successful completion, candidates are recommended for K–6 Educator Licensure in Indiana. Graduates primarily pursue classroom teaching roles in early childhood and elementary settings; candidates seeking licensure outside Indiana are responsible for verifying how program completion aligns with other states’ academic and assessment requirements.
