What you'll study

This programme combines foundational clinical knowledge with applied practice. Core areas include counselling theories and techniques, psychopathology and diagnosis, clinical assessment and psychometrics, multicultural and community mental health, ethics and legal issues, and evidence-based interventions. Students typically complete coursework in group facilitation, crisis intervention, family systems, and trauma-informed care.

Applied learning is emphasised through supervised practicum or internship placements in community agencies, schools or clinical settings, and through a culminating project or clinical capstone that integrates assessment, treatment planning and outcome evaluation. Research methods and program evaluation modules prepare students to use outcome data in practice and to contribute to service improvement.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree. Admissions typically consider undergraduate transcripts, a personal statement describing vocational goals and fit with the programme, a current CV or résumé, and professional or academic references. Many applicants will be asked to participate in an interview.

Because placements in community settings are an integral part of training, successful candidates should be prepared to complete background checks and to meet any site-specific health or immunisation requirements. Applicants with relevant work, volunteer or life experience in social services, education, or community health are competitive.
