What you'll study

The programme combines foundational biomedical and behavioural sciences with professional nursing theory, practical clinical skills and pathway-specific modules. Core topics include human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, health assessment, and the principles of evidence-based practice. Professional nursing modules cover adult, maternal-newborn, paediatric and mental health nursing, community and public health nursing, ethical and legal aspects of practice, and patient safety.

All students complete research methods and statistics, health promotion and disease prevention, and a capstone or senior practicum. Three pathway options allow focused study:

• Nursing Administration: leadership and management in healthcare, quality improvement, health policy, budgeting and resource management, human resource issues and organisational behaviour in clinical settings.
• Nursing Research: advanced research design, evidence synthesis, clinical audit, research ethics, and a supervised research project preparing students to contribute to nursing knowledge and to implement evidence into practice.
• Clinical Nursing: advanced clinical assessment, clinical decision-making, specialty practicum experiences and preparation for roles such as clinical nurse specialist or advanced generalist practitioner.

The programme is delivered primarily through online lectures, seminars and assessments, with clinical practicums and skills assessments arranged in partnership with local healthcare providers so students gain supervised hands-on experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to have a recognised secondary school qualification or equivalent, including passes in mathematics and a science subject (biology or chemistry preferred). Mature applicants with relevant work experience or prior learning may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Where the programme builds on prior nursing registration, applicants who are already registered RNs typically need to provide proof of current registration.

Typical academic expectations include a satisfactory grade point average in prior study and completion of prerequisite courses where required. All candidates must meet health and safety requirements for clinical placements, which commonly include immunisation evidence, a criminal background check, CPR certification and any local statutory requirements. International applicants whose first language is not English will be expected to demonstrate English language proficiency to the level required for safe professional practice in the placement jurisdiction.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for a range of roles across acute, community and primary care settings. Typical career pathways include staff nurse positions in hospitals, community nursing, occupational health, and primary care. Those who specialise in Nursing Administration may move into charge nurse, ward manager, service manager or other leadership roles. Graduates from the Nursing Research stream are well placed to work in clinical research teams, quality improvement units and as research assistants or coordinators, and can progress to postgraduate research degrees. The Clinical Nursing pathway supports development toward clinical nurse specialist roles, advanced practice, or specialty area positions.

Many graduates pursue further study at master’s level (clinical specialisms, nurse education, health administration or research degrees) or undertake professional registration/licensing where required by local regulatory bodies.
