The programme builds on professional nursing practice through a mix of advanced theoretical study, research methods and applied clinical experience. Core topics typically include advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology, healthcare policy and ethics, leadership and organisational management in healthcare, and research design and statistics. Depending on the pathway you choose—Nursing Administration, Nursing Research, or Clinical Nursing—you will follow focused modules and a practice component or capstone:

• Nursing Administration: organisational leadership, human resources and workforce development, financial management for healthcare, quality improvement and safety, strategic planning and regulatory issues. Practical experiences concentrate on management and unit-level leadership.
• Nursing Research: quantitative and qualitative research methods, evidence-based practice, data analysis, grant writing and dissemination. Students complete a research project or thesis and work with faculty on study design and implementation.
• Clinical Nursing: advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning, care coordination, population health and speciality practicum hours tailored to the student’s clinical focus. Emphasis is placed on translating evidence into practice and improving patient outcomes.

The programme sequence commonly combines classroom or online coursework with supervised clinical/practicum hours and a culminating scholarly project or practicum portfolio. Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent from an accredited institution and to be a licensed registered nurse in the state where clinical placements will occur. Some special-entry routes may consider applicants with a degree in a related field plus substantial professional nursing experience.
