What you'll study

This programme combines advanced theoretical approaches to international politics with a sustained regional focus on Europe. You will study the politics of European integration, comparative national politics within Europe, policy processes at EU and subnational levels, and contemporary challenges such as migration, security, and the political economy of the region.

Structure

• The programme is taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, small-group tutorials and a research dissertation. Full-time students normally complete the degree in one year; part-time routes are also available.
• Teaching emphasises critical engagement with theory, empirical analysis, and the development of research skills needed for independent research and policy work.
• The dissertation provides an opportunity to pursue an extended piece of original research on a Europe-focused topic under the supervision of a faculty member.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have a good undergraduate degree in politics, international relations, European studies, or a closely related social science subject. Equivalent international qualifications and substantial relevant professional experience are also considered. Applicants whose first language is not English will need to meet the University's English language requirements; the programme typically requires a high level of written and oral English competence to complete seminar work and the dissertation.
