The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at United Arab Emirates University is a full-time undergraduate programme that builds a strong foundation in programming, algorithms, systems and mathematics while introducing contemporary topics such as artificial intelligence, data science and cybersecurity. It suits students who enjoy problem solving, logical thinking and creating software systems for industry, government or research.

What you'll study

The Computer Science BSc provides a balanced mix of theoretical foundations and practical skills. Core study areas include programming and software development, data structures and algorithms, discrete mathematics, computer architecture and operating systems, databases, and networking. Students also take courses in software engineering, human–computer interaction, theory of computation and probability and statistics for computing.

In later years the curriculum offers specialised and elective modules such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science and big data, cybersecurity and information assurance, cloud and distributed systems, mobile and web application development, and embedded systems. Laboratory work, programming projects and team-based assignments are integrated throughout the programme, culminating in a senior capstone project that requires students to deliver a substantial software or research project.

Additional components include a professional skills strand (technical communication, ethics and project management), opportunities for internship placements with industry or government partners, and elective options that allow students to tailor their studies towards domains such as data analytics, AI, networks or software engineering.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised secondary school qualification with strong performance in mathematics. UAE high-school Tawjihi graduates, GCE A-levels, International Baccalaureate or equivalent international qualifications are accepted when they meet the university’s general admission standards. Selection takes into account mathematics and science background, overall academic record and any required foundation courses.

Because instruction and assessment are in English, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. The university accepts national English assessment scores and recognised international tests, or requires completion of a university English foundation programme for those who need to improve their language level. Mature applicants with appropriate prior tertiary study or relevant professional experience may be considered according to university policy.

Career prospects

Graduates leave prepared for a broad range of computing careers. Typical roles include software developer/engineer, systems analyst, database administrator, network engineer, cybersecurity analyst, machine learning engineer, data analyst/scientist and cloud or DevOps engineer. The programme also provides a foundation for further study at the master’s or doctoral level and for careers in research, academic teaching, consulting, startups and technology leadership positions in private and public sector organisations.

Alumni commonly find employment with UAE and regional technology companies, government IT departments, telecom operators and multinational firms, or choose to continue into specialised postgraduate programmes to deepen expertise in areas such as AI, cybersecurity or data science.
