What you'll study

The programme combines design studios with technical, historical and professional studies to develop practical skills and conceptual thinking. Teaching methods include studio projects, workshops, digital modelling, site visits and an industry placement.

• Design Studio (foundation to advanced) — progressive studio projects focusing on residential, hospitality, commercial and public interiors.
• Drawing and Representation — hand drawing, orthographic projection and perspective sketching for communication of ideas.

• Materials, Finishes and Furniture — selection, specification and detailing of materials, finishes and custom furniture.

• Construction and Detailing — technical detailing, building regulations and construction techniques for interior fit-outs.
• History and Theory of Interior Architecture — study of movements, cultural influences and regional context in interior design.
• Sustainable and Inclusive Design — strategies for low-impact design, accessibility and universal design principles.
• Professional Practice — project management, specification writing, budgeting, client communication and legal/ethical issues.
• Final Year Capstone/Thesis and Portfolio — independent major project and development of a professional portfolio for employment.
• Industry Internship — placement in a design practice or related company to gain workplace experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised secondary school qualification such as the UAE Secondary School Certificate, International Baccalaureate diploma or GCE A-levels (or an equivalent qualification from an international credentialing body). Admission requires submission of a design portfolio demonstrating creative work and drawing ability; shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview or design exercise.

Applicants whose prior instruction was not in English must demonstrate English language proficiency. Mature applicants with relevant work experience or a related foundation qualification are considered on a case-by-case basis.
