What you'll study

The programme combines core science subjects with applied nutrition, food science and public health. You will study human anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, food chemistry and food microbiology to build a strong biological foundation. Core nutrition modules cover macronutrients and micronutrients, nutrition across the life course, nutritional assessment and counselling, clinical and therapeutic nutrition, and community and public health nutrition.

Practical and laboratory training is an integral element: food analysis, laboratory techniques, nutrition research methods and statistics, and controlled laboratory work are complemented by supervised placements in clinical, community and food-industry settings. Optional or elective modules typically allow specialisation in topics such as sports nutrition, maternal and child nutrition, dietetics pathways, food safety and quality, and nutrition policy and programme design.

The curriculum usually culminates in a research project or capstone that develops skills in study design, data collection and scientific communication.

Entry requirements

• Completion of a recognised secondary school qualification (for example the UAE Tawjihiyah or an international equivalent) with strong performance in science subjects.
• Typical academic preparation includes biology and chemistry at secondary level; physics and mathematics are advantageous.
• Demonstrated proficiency in English is required; applicants whose prior education was not in English will need to present an accepted English language qualification or meet the university's English entry pathway.
• Some applicants may be required to attend an interview or provide a personal statement outlining their motivation for studying nutritional science and any relevant experience.

Career prospects

Graduates enter a wide range of careers in health, science and industry. Common roles include clinical nutritionist or dietetic assistant (with further professional training where required by regulation), public health nutritionist, community nutrition educator, food safety and quality officer, product development or technical roles within the food industry, and corporate wellness or nutrition consultancy.

Many graduates pursue postgraduate study or professional qualification in dietetics, public health, nutrition science or related biomedical disciplines, which opens additional clinical, research and policy roles. The programme also provides a foundation for roles in research, food regulation and non-governmental organisations working on nutrition and food security.
