What you'll study

The programme combines taught modules with a substantial research dissertation, emphasising both theoretical understanding and practical research skills. Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a UK upper second-class (2:1) honours degree or an international equivalent in politics, international relations, sociology, economics or a closely related discipline. Candidates with a lower second-class degree plus relevant professional experience, or a good honours degree in another subject with demonstrable preparedness for graduate study, may also be considered.

Those for whom English is not a first language will need to meet the University's standard English language requirements for postgraduate study; common accepted evidence includes recognised tests with a typical overall score expectation and minimum component scores. Additional evidence of research preparedness, such as a writing sample or personal statement, may be requested.

Typical roles include policy analyst, civil servant or public administration professional, researcher or analyst in think tanks and NGOs, campaign and advocacy officer, political consultant, and roles in international organisations. Many students also use the master's as preparation for doctoral study and academic careers.
