What you'll study

  • Biology/Environmental Science: ecology, conservation biology, plant and animal physiology, field methods and ecosystem management, freshwater and marine science with field-based practicals.
  • Chemistry: organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, analytical techniques, instrumental methods and laboratory project work.
  • Physics: classical and modern physics, experimental physics, computational modelling and electronics.
  • Mathematics & Statistics: pure and applied mathematics, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistical modelling and data analysis.

Entry requirements

Entry to the BSc requires university entrance from a recognised secondary qualification. Domestic applicants typically present New Zealand University Entrance (NCEA Level 3) or an equivalent qualification; international applicants need a recognised secondary school certificate. Specific majors have recommended or required background subjects — for example, calculus or a higher-level mathematics subject is strongly recommended for Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and Data Science majors, and chemistry is recommended for Chemistry and some Biology pathways.
