What you'll study

This pre-registration master's combines theory, evidence-based practice and hands-on clinical skills to prepare you for entry-level practice as an occupational therapist. The programme covers core topics such as occupational therapy models and theory; professional reasoning and clinical decision-making; assessment and intervention across the lifespan; physical and mental health conditions that affect occupation; and principles of rehabilitation, enablement and assistive technologies.

Teaching methods include seminars, workshops, simulation and supervised practice placements in a range of settings such as acute hospitals, community services, mental health, social care and schools. You will develop practical skills in activity analysis, client-centred assessment, formulation and goal-setting, manual handling, splinting and adaptation of environments and equipment. Structure

The programme is delivered through a blend of taught modules and substantial practice placements spread across the course, culminating in a master's research project. Entry requirements

Applicants typically hold a degree in any subject; many successful applicants have a 2:1 honours degree or equivalent, although applicants with a 2:2 plus relevant paid or voluntary experience in health or social care may also be considered. Relevant experience working with people in health, social care, education or community settings is highly desirable and often expected.

All applicants must meet professional requirements for practice, including satisfactory occupational health screening, an enhanced criminal record check, and evidence of required vaccinations. International applicants whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate English language proficiency to the level required by professional regulators. Selection usually involves a structured interview and may include evaluation of values, communication and suitability for a practice-based health profession.

Graduates are eligible to register with the professional regulator and work as qualified occupational therapists across health and social care.
