What you'll study

This programme blends accounting fundamentals with finance, economics and business law to give you a rounded, practice-focused skill set. In the first year you typically cover introductory modules such as Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Business and the External Environment, Quantitative Methods for Business and Introduction to Finance. In later years the curriculum moves into intermediate and advanced topics including Financial Reporting, Corporate Finance, Audit and Assurance, Taxation, Management Control Systems, Financial Markets and Institutions, and Strategic Management.

Teaching combines lectures, seminars, workshops and case-based learning, with practical use of accounting software and spreadsheet modelling. In the final year you complete advanced option modules and a substantial independent project or dissertation on an accounting- or finance-related topic. There are also opportunities to take optional modules in areas such as forensic accounting, sustainability reporting, derivatives and risk management, or to undertake a placement year or a period of study abroad to gain practical experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a secondary school qualification equivalent to standard university entry in the UK. Typical offers for this programme reflect strong performance across relevant subjects; successful applicants commonly present A-levels, BTECs, an International Baccalaureate diploma or an Access to Higher Education qualification. Mathematics at GCSE or equivalent is usually expected, and some level of competence in numeracy is required.
