What you'll study

This programme combines core computer science fundamentals with practical software engineering techniques. In early years you build a strong foundation in programming, data structures, algorithms, databases and computer systems. Modules emphasise engineering practice: software design and architecture, requirements engineering, testing, quality assurance and version control. You learn modern development paradigms including web and mobile development, cloud-based deployment, and DevOps toolchains, together with human-centred design and usability.

Teaching is delivered through lectures, laboratories, workshops and substantial team projects. Group work and industry-style sprints replicate professional environments; you will also complete an individual final-year project that demonstrates your ability to plan, implement and evaluate a complete software system. Optional modules and project choices allow you to deepen expertise in areas such as machine learning integration, security, embedded systems or advanced web applications.

Entry requirements

Swansea looks for applicants with evidence of strong numeracy and logical reasoning, and practical experience of programming is advantageous. Typical offers expect qualifications in relevant subjects such as Mathematics or Computer Science at A level (or equivalent qualifications like BTEC, Scottish Highers, Access to HE, or a recognised international qualification).
