What you'll study

This top-up degree builds on existing practical and theoretical knowledge from a Level 5 qualification by developing advanced understanding of finance in an international business context. Teaching combines core finance and accounting modules with international business strategy, quantitative techniques and a substantial independent research project.

• International Corporate Finance – study of capital structure, financing decisions, cross-border investment appraisal and multinational capital budgeting.
• Financial Markets and Instruments – exploration of global markets, fixed income and equity instruments, derivatives and market microstructure.
• Management Accounting and Financial Reporting – applied topics in costing, budgeting, performance measurement and interpretation of financial statements for decision making.
• Risk Management and Treasury – methods for identifying and managing financial risks, foreign exchange exposure and short-term funding strategies.
• International Business Strategy – strategic frameworks for competing across borders, entry modes, and global value chains.
• Quantitative Methods for Business – statistical and econometric techniques used in finance and management decision-making.
• Research Project / Dissertation – an independent, supervisor-led piece of work that applies theory to an applied finance or international business problem.

Teaching methods typically include lectures, seminars, case studies, group work and practical workshops using real financial data and industry-relevant software. Assessment is by a mixture of exams, coursework, presentations and the final research project.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a relevant Level 5 qualification such as an HND, Foundation Degree or equivalent in business, accounting, finance or a closely related subject. Admissions will consider the profile of prior study, professional experience and academic references. International applicants must meet the University’s English language requirement through an approved qualification or test.

Applicants whose prior learning does not map exactly to the module content may be asked for transcripts or to discuss credit mapping with admissions staff. Mature applicants with substantial relevant work experience are considered on an individual basis.

Typical destinations include positions such as financial analyst, treasury or risk analyst, corporate finance associate, management accountant, business analyst, or roles within international business development and corporate strategy.
