Keele's undergraduate Forensic Science degree combines laboratory science with crime scene investigation and the legal context of evidence, suitable for students who want a practical, science-based route into forensic practice or further study. The programme suits those with strong interests in biology, chemistry and investigative work and who want hands-on lab and field training alongside theory.
This degree covers the scientific principles and practical techniques used to examine physical evidence, recover and preserve scenes, and present findings in legal contexts. Teaching blends chemistry, biology, analytical techniques, statistics and forensic practice so you develop both laboratory competence and an understanding of investigative processes.
Typical entry requires A-levels (or equivalent) with at least two science subjects such as Biology and/or Chemistry; applicants with a science-based BTEC or equivalent qualifications are also considered. GCSE requirements normally include passes in English and Mathematics. Some routes or specific modules may expect prior laboratory experience or demonstrable practical skills. International applicants will need an approved secondary qualification and proof of English language ability where applicable. Selection is based on academic achievement, personal statement and references; applicants may be invited to an interview or to provide evidence of practical experience for some programmes.
Graduates move into a range of science-led roles within the criminal justice and associated sectors. Typical destinations include forensic laboratory analyst, crime scene investigator, evidence recovery technician, fingerprint examiner, toxicology or DNA laboratory assistant, and roles within police forces, government laboratories, private forensic providers and regulatory bodies.
