What you'll study

This three‑year honours degree builds technical knowledge across the fundamentals of aerospace engineering while developing practical skills in design, analysis and testing. Early modules establish core mathematics, mechanics, materials and electrical principles. Progression units cover aerodynamics, flight mechanics, aircraft structures, propulsion principles, control and stability, avionics and systems engineering.

Teaching combines lectures and tutorials with laboratory work, computer‑aided engineering and group design projects. Typical learning activities include computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling, finite element analysis (FEA) of structures, propulsion test rigs, control system simulation, rapid prototyping and hands‑on manufacturing in specialist workshops. The programme culminates in an individual final year project that allows you to pursue a practical or research‑led topic under academic supervision.

Optional modules and professional development sessions focus on engineering management, certification and safety, sustainability in aerospace, and preparatory skills for industry such as project management, technical communication and teamwork. Applicants should have strong formal qualifications in mathematics and physics (or suitable equivalents).
