What you'll study

This programme covers the technical, managerial and commercial aspects of building delivery. Core topics include construction technology and methods, building materials, site operations and health & safety; contract law, procurement and procurement route selection; estimating, cost control and measurement; project planning and programme management; and sustainability and building performance. You will also study digital skills for the industry such as BIM (Building Information Modelling) and use of industry-standard software for estimating and scheduling.

The degree is typically structured across three years of full-time study, with an option to take a placement/sandwich year in industry between the second and final year. Early years focus on technical foundations and measurement, while later years develop management, commercial and professional practice through case studies, group projects and a final-year major project or dissertation that integrates design, cost and programme considerations.

Entry requirements

Nottingham Trent University welcomes applicants from a variety of educational backgrounds. Typical entrants will hold A-levels or an equivalent vocational qualification (such as a BTEC National Extended Diploma) with acceptable grades, often including a numerate subject such as mathematics, physics or a construction-related subject. Applicants without traditional qualifications but with relevant work experience or industry-focused diplomas are considered through UCAS or the university's admissions procedures.

You will normally be expected to have GCSE-level English and mathematics (or equivalent) at a pass level. International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through an approved qualification. Mature applicants are assessed on the basis of experience and prior learning; the university also provides advice on alternative entry routes and recognition of prior learning.
