This Bachelor programme combines core economics with practical and strategic marketing skills to prepare students for careers that require analytical thinking and commercial creativity. It suits students who want to understand market behaviour, apply quantitative tools to business problems and pursue roles in marketing, market research, consultancy or economic analysis.

What you'll study

The programme delivers a balance of economics and marketing modules, emphasising both theoretical foundations and applied techniques. You will study microeconomics and macroeconomics to understand individual and aggregate behaviour, quantitative methods including statistics and introductory econometrics, and core marketing subjects such as principles of marketing, consumer behaviour, brand management and digital marketing.

  • Core economics: introductory and intermediate microeconomics, macroeconomics, public economics, development and international economics.
  • Quantitative and analytical skills: business statistics, econometrics, data analysis for marketing, and research methods.
  • Marketing and business: marketing management, consumer behaviour, advertising and promotion, digital and social media marketing, product and service management, market research and CRM.
  • Complementary business topics: financial accounting, managerial accounting, business law, strategic management and organisational behaviour.
  • Applied experience: practical projects, case studies, group consultancy assignments and an independent final-year project or dissertation that integrates economics and marketing insights.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised secondary school leaving qualification with appropriate grades in quantitative subjects. Typical applicants have passes in subjects such as mathematics or economics at higher secondary level (for example, Matriculation or A-level equivalents). Applicants whose secondary qualifications do not directly match the standard requirements may be considered through a foundation or access programme, or via mature student entry routes that consider work experience and other evidence of readiness for degree study.

Because instruction is in English, proficiency in English is required; applicants whose previous education was not in English may be asked to provide evidence of language competence. Specific entrance conditions and any required subject-level grades are set by the University of Malta and should be checked on the University’s official admissions pages.

Career prospects

Graduates leave equipped for a wide range of roles across private, public and third-sector organisations. Careers commonly pursued include marketing executive, marketing manager, brand or product manager, digital marketing specialist, market researcher, business or data analyst, sales manager and management consultant. The economics component also prepares graduates for roles in public policy, economic research, financial services and international organisations. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in marketing, economics, business analytics or MBA programmes, and professional qualifications in marketing and analytics are natural complements.
