What you'll study

The programme builds a grounding in financial and management accounting, auditing, business law and taxation while integrating modules on information systems, databases and data analysis tailored to accounting applications. Early years focus on core business disciplines — introductory financial accounting, management accounting, economics, business statistics and principles of law — together with computing fundamentals and spreadsheet modelling. Later stages advance to intermediate and advanced financial reporting, auditing and assurance, taxation, corporate governance and strategic management accounting.

Parallel information-systems modules cover accounting information systems, database design, enterprise resource planning (ERP) concepts, systems analysis and design, and an introduction to programming and scripting relevant to data extraction and automation. Quantitative and analytical topics such as business analytics, data visualisation and information security as they relate to accounting processes are included.

The programme typically includes applied learning through case studies, group projects, an individual research project or dissertation and opportunities for workplace placements or internships with local firms. Practical coursework emphasises use of commercial accounting software, ERP demonstration systems and data-handling tools used in contemporary practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised secondary-school leaving qualification that meets the University of Malta's matriculation profile, including passes in subjects that demonstrate numeracy and literacy. Typical preparation includes mathematics or a quantitative subject and proficiency in English. Equivalent qualifications, mature-student routes and recognised international credentials are considered according to university admissions policy.
