What you'll study

The MSOT curriculum emphasizes occupation-based interventions and a problem-based learning approach that blends active learning with clinical application. Students learn to assess and address clients’ spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs and design interventions that enable participation in work, school, play, home and community life. Small-group tutorials led by faculty focus on clinical reasoning and bridging didactic content with practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants must select the dual program on the Common Application as incoming freshmen. Minimum documented criteria include an overall high school GPA of 3.3 or higher, four years of math and science coursework in high school, and grades of B or better in all math and science courses. Progression into the graduate portion requires continued satisfaction of program-specific criteria during undergraduate study.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for clinical practice as occupational therapists and Sacred Heart reports strong success on the national certification exam (a 98% pass rate for MSOT graduates). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects occupational therapy to grow much faster than average through at least 2033, indicating expanding employment opportunities.
