The BA in Spanish develops proficiency across speaking, listening, reading and writing while situating language study in the culture, history and literature of Spanish-speaking communities. It suits students who want immersive language training for careers in education, healthcare, public service, non-profits, or for study abroad and graduate pathways.
Students work to become confident and proficient in speaking, understanding, reading and writing in Spanish while exploring the culture, history and literature of Spanish-speaking countries. The curriculum allows students to pursue a K–12 teaching preparation track if they intend to teach, or to combine Spanish with majors in health sciences, social work, law, public relations and related fields.

Fluency in Spanish is in demand across many sectors; the program notes particular need in healthcare and public service. Graduates have taken roles in nonprofit organizations, taught Spanish in U.S. public schools, taught English in Spanish-speaking countries, worked with healthcare providers and public service agencies, or pursued graduate study including medical school. Students may also complete internships domestically or abroad in clinics, schools and community organizations.
All new first-year applicants receive either the Benedictine Scholarship or the Access Award upon admission.
