What you'll study

This program develops core research competencies across quantitative and qualitative approaches, preparing you to design, plan and communicate small-scale research projects. Typical topics include:

• Research design and methodology – framing research questions, selecting appropriate methods, and designing feasible studies.
• Research ethics and governance – ethical review processes, human research ethics, and responsible conduct of research.
• Data collection and analysis – qualitative data collection techniques, basic statistics and interpretation, and introduction to analytical software where applicable.
• Scholarly communication – academic writing, literature review, referencing and presenting findings to academic and non-academic audiences.
• Project planning – timeframes, risk management, and preparing a research proposal or minor research project.

Structure is compact and focused, typically comprising a small number of postgraduate-level units that can be completed in a short timeframe. Units are offered in flexible modes including on-campus, blended and online delivery to suit working professionals and remote students.

Entry requirements

Admission normally requires a recognised bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline or demonstrated professional experience considered equivalent by the University. Applicants without a bachelor’s qualification but with substantial relevant industry or research experience may be eligible through a special admissions pathway.

All applicants must meet the University's English language requirements appropriate to postgraduate study; evidence of previous tertiary study in English or a recognised English proficiency test may be requested from international applicants. You may also be asked to supply academic transcripts, a CV and a brief statement of intent outlining your research interests and goals.
