A practice-focused Master of Education that trains teachers in the Waldorf approach — blending theoretical study of anthroposophy and child development with artistic practice, school-based seminar work, and residency-based intensives. Suited to early-career teachers, experienced educators seeking Waldorf certification, and practitioners wanting classroom-ready skills for independent and charter Waldorf schools.

What you'll study

Coursework covers in-depth study of how the Waldorf curriculum meets children’s cognitive, emotional, and moral development, alongside exploration of anthroposophical theory. Students take artistic courses to build creative teaching skills, participate in professional seminars that reflect on school practice, and complete practicum components informed by instructors with active classroom experience. The program includes demanding summer intensives in a retreat-style setting. Delivery models include a 32-credit MEd that contains the AWSNA-approved Waldorf Certificate, a 32-credit Transdisciplinary Focus on Healing Education (four semesters), and a Waldorf Certificate option (28 credits).

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or at least 72 semester credits and experience in education to enter the Master’s or Certificate programs; a Foundation Studies route requires a bachelor’s degree or at least 60 credits. Application materials include an online application with essay questions, a resume/CV, a non-refundable $50 application fee, official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions, and two letters of recommendation from non-related evaluators. Selected applicants will be interviewed by a faculty member. Program-specific and international requirements apply; summer-sequence and year-round program application deadlines list June 1 for relevant terms.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared to teach in Waldorf contexts worldwide. Typical roles include elementary Waldorf class teacher, specialty subject teacher (for areas such as foreign language, handwork, or physical education), and positions in Waldorf charter or independent schools. The program also serves experienced Waldorf educators and anthroposophical practitioners seeking career development within Waldorf education.
