A flexible MEd pathway that lets practicing educators build a personalized curriculum by hand-picking courses across the department or stacking a named graduate certificate. Best for experienced teachers or school-based leaders whose interests span multiple areas or who need a bespoke set of skills not captured by a single concentration.

What you'll study

All students complete 15 core courses listed in the course catalog; the remaining 18 credits are developed with an academic adviser to reflect your goals. You may choose the Bespoke Pathway—hand-selecting every course—or the Certificate Pathway—stacking one of Antioch’s specialized Graduate Certificates into the degree. Examples of certificate subject areas include:

  • Educating for Sustainability
  • Integrated STEAM Education
  • Mindfulness for Educators
  • Place-Based Education
  • Problem-Based Learning with Critical Skills
  • Trauma-Informed Education

Students can opt to attend one- or two-week summer residencies (usually the first two full weeks of July) that emphasize hands-on activities, community-based learning, and meeting faculty and classmates face-to-face.

Entry requirements

Application materials required are an online application with essay questions and program-specific items, a resume/CV, a non-refundable $50 application fee, official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions, and two letters of recommendation from evaluators who are not related to the applicant. Applicants may be invited to interview with a department faculty member (in person, by phone, or via Skype). GRE or other standardized tests are not required. There are additional requirements for international applicants and for applicants without a bachelor’s degree. Typical application deadlines are April 15 for Summer, August 1 for Fall, and December 1 for Spring.

Career prospects

The program is aimed at practicing educators seeking to deepen or broaden their professional practice. By tailoring coursework or stacking a certificate, candidates can pursue specialized classroom strategies, leadership roles in curriculum design, district-level initiatives (such as place-based or trauma-informed programs), or other school-based positions that value cross-disciplinary expertise. Outcomes depend on the courses and certificates chosen and on each student’s prior experience and local job market.

Scholarships & funding angle

Antioch University New England offers financial-aid guidance and a variety of funding sources; most students use some form of aid. The President’s Merit Scholarship awards $6,000 to new master’s students who meet a minimum 3.40 GPA and other conditions; funds are disbursed over the first two academic years for students enrolled full-time and meeting academic progress requirements. The campus also offers a 10% tuition discount for groups of three or more students from the same school or district attending an AUNE Education MEd or Certificate program concurrently. Tuition is charged per credit (listed in the catalog); students are encouraged to contact admissions and the financial-aid office for detailed cost and aid options.
