What you'll study

Coursework trains educators to integrate humane education into their practice through age-appropriate, intersectional content that links environmental preservation, animal protection and social justice. The program places strong emphasis on critical, creative and systems thinking. Program structure requires six foundational courses in humane education, a practicum, two electives and a capstone course; students unable to attend the 3-credit residency may substitute a third elective instead.

Entry requirements

To apply, submit the online admissions application with essay questions and program-specific materials, a resume or CV, and a non-refundable $50 application fee. Applicants must provide official transcripts from all prior colleges or universities (emailed or mailed to the Office of Admissions), and two letters of recommendation from people able to evaluate professional or academic work (not relatives). Selected applicants will interview with a department faculty member in person, by phone, or via Skype. International applicants have additional requirements. Application deadlines: April 15 (Summer), August 15 (Fall), December 15 (Spring).

Scholarships & funding angle

Tuition is listed at $840 per credit for the MEd (33 credits). Antioch New England offers the President’s Merit Scholarship for new master’s students with a minimum 3.40 GPA; awards total $6,000 distributed equally over the first two academic years for full-time enrollees who maintain satisfactory progress and complete each registered course. AUNE also offers a 10% discount for groups of three or more students from the same school or district in eligible education programs. Additional federal, state and private aid options are available through the university’s financial aid office.
