What you'll study

Study is arranged through a 'block and blend' model. Year 1 offers a multidisciplinary foundation across childhood, education, development, health and diversity, with continuous placement one day a week and an extended placement block. Years 2 and 3 split academic study between the University's Childhood programme and ITT providers for subject-specific professional modules. You will experience placements in three different schools and receive mentoring from school mentors and ITT tutors.

• Year 1 modules (requisite): Child Development and Education; Children's Wellbeing and Inclusion; Children’s Rights, Social Policy and Social Justice; The Personal and Professional Self; Professional Practice 1.

Entry requirements

Typical academic entry requirement is 120 UCAS points (examples given: BBB A-level, DDM BTEC, Merit T Level, Access to HE Diploma with 45 level 3 credits at Merit). All applicants must hold three GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in English, Maths and Science or accepted equivalents (approved equivalency tests or overseas qualifications verified by UK NARIC). Key and functional skills at level 2 are not accepted as equivalents. For 2026 entry the course was closed and applicants were advised to contact Admissions or the Clearing Hotline to discuss suitability.

Career prospects

The programme prepares graduates to take up qualified teacher roles in primary schools. The embedded, extensive placements are positioned as preparation for classroom teaching. Graduates may also move into a wider range of child- and family-focused roles or continue to postgraduate study in education, health or social care.
