What you'll study

The curriculum emphasises links between theory, research, policy and professional practice to support children’s learning and development from 0–12 years. Modules listed for the course include:

Teaching is delivered in a 'block and blend' format and focuses on therapeutic care, inclusive practice, policy and legislation, and continued professional development. Students receive academic coaching and structured support to apply theory into workplace practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold an FdA or FdSc (or equivalent) in a relevant subject for progression into this top-up degree. All applicants must have GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or Level 2 equivalents). As a practice-based programme, you will need the backing of an employer (paid or voluntary) and a workplace mentor to successfully complete the course.

Graduates enhance employability across the childcare sector and can pursue roles in schools, children’s centres, playgroups, nurseries, social care and voluntary organisations. The degree supports progression to management within early years settings, initial teacher training (ITT) for those seeking a teaching career, or postgraduate study such as MA programmes.
