A seven‑semester Bachelor in Electrical and Information Engineering taught in German at the Gießen campus. The course suits students who enjoy electronics, programming and lab work and who want a broad foundation before choosing a technical focus in automation, embedded systems, communications or renewable electrical energy.

What you'll study

The first three semesters establish a shared core covering electrical engineering, mathematics, programming, digital technology, physics and measurement technology. From semester four you choose one of four specialisations: Automatisierungstechnik und Robotik (Automation & Robotics), Elektronik und Embedded Systems, Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik (Information & Communication Technology) or Elektrische Energietechnik für regenerative Energiesysteme (Electrical Energy Technology for Renewable Systems).

  • Core modules (semester 1–3 examples): Studieneinstiegs‑Seminar; Elektrotechnik 1–3; Mathematik 1–2; Einführung in die Programmierung 1–2; Digitaltechnik; Physik; Messtechnik; Transformationen; Mikrorechnertechnik; Elektronik.
  • Middle phase (semesters 4–6): Mandatory modules include Softwareentwicklung, Grundlagen der Informations‑ und Kommunikationstechnik, Systemtheorie, Projektarbeit and SRW‑modules from related departments. Students also take specialisation modules and elective modules (4–6 choices) totalling the required credits.
  • Specialisation examples:
    • Automatisierungstechnik und Robotik: Steuerungs‑ und Regelungstechnik, elektronische Antriebstechnik, Robotik, Leistungselektronik and related subjects to configure and program automation hardware/software and perform commissioning and maintenance tasks.
    • Elektronik und Embedded Systems: analog/digital circuit design, microcontroller programming, HF and measurement techniques, semiconductor physics, chip design (ASICs), CAE/CAD tools for design and EMV considerations.
    • Informations‑ und Kommunikationstechnik: design and maintenance of information products and complex communication systems, data capture/storage/processing, transmission over local and global networks and signal compression topics.
    • Elektrische Energietechnik für regenerative Energiesysteme: design, development and optimisation of components and systems for electrical energy technology, with a focus on regenerative systems.
  • Final phase (semester 7): A 12‑credit professional practical phase (BPP) with a seminar and presentation, plus a 12‑credit bachelor thesis and a bachelor colloquium.
