What you'll study

The BSN curriculum combines foundational biological and behavioural sciences with nursing theory and extensive clinical experience. Early coursework typically covers human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, developmental psychology and health assessment. Core nursing modules focus on adult health, maternal and child health, mental health nursing, community and public health, and care of older adults.

Upper‑level study emphasises professional roles and across the specialisms available in the programme: Nursing Administration (leadership, organisational behaviour, finance and quality improvement), Nursing Research (evidence‑based practice, research methods, statistics and outcomes evaluation) and Clinical Nursing (advanced assessment, complex care management and specialty practicum experiences).

Students spend significant time in clinical placements and simulation laboratories to apply classroom learning to patient care. The programme also integrates interprofessional learning, informatics, ethics and preparation for licensure and professional practice.

Entry requirements

• Completed high school diploma or equivalent with a competitive GPA; specific prerequisite coursework in biology, chemistry and mathematics or statistics is normally required.
• Applicants for pre‑licensure study should demonstrate completion of anatomy & physiology and related science prerequisites; applicants who are already RNs will typically need to provide proof of current licensure to enrol in RN‑to‑BSN pathways.
• Additional application materials often include transcripts, a personal statement, and references; some applicants may be asked to attend an interview or provide evidence of healthcare experience.
• Conditional requirements before clinical placements include health screenings, immunisations, background checks, drug screening and basic life support (CPR) certification.
• Note: specific minimum GPAs, standardised test requirements (if any) and any competitive selection criteria should be confirmed with the School of Nursing prior to application.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for licensure as registered nurses and enter clinical practice in settings such as acute care hospitals, community and public health agencies, long‑term care facilities and outpatient clinics. Those who follow the Nursing Administration route are prepared for roles in unit management, quality improvement, care coordination and healthcare operations.

Graduates with a research focus gain skills to contribute to evidence‑based practice, work on clinical research teams, or continue to graduate study in nursing research and epidemiology. Clinical specialism prepares nurses for advanced practice roles, specialty nursing positions and leadership in direct patient care. Common career titles include staff nurse, charge nurse, nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist, research nurse and public health nurse.
