What you'll study

The programme combines core modules on the economics and policy of international trade with applied modules on trade finance, logistics and the management of global value chains. Teaching emphasises data-driven analysis, contemporary trade issues such as digital trade and regional trade agreements, and the operational challenges firms face when trading internationally.

• Core topics: international trade theory and policy, global value chain analysis, trade law and regulation, and trade data and empirical methods.
• Applied modules: trade finance and payment mechanisms, import/export operations, customs and compliance, and supply chain and logistics management.
• Quantitative skills: econometrics for trade analysis, use of trade databases, scenario modelling and policy impact assessment.
• Project work: an individual dissertation or industry-linked project that applies theory and methods to a real trade problem, often in collaboration with a company, trade association or policy body.
• Additional learning: workshops, guest lectures from industry and policymakers, and practical sessions on documentation, contracts and digital trade platforms.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a good undergraduate degree (upper second class honours/2:1 or equivalent) in a relevant subject such as economics, business, management, engineering, finance, or a related social science. Candidates with substantial professional experience in trade, logistics, finance or a related field may also be considered.

Because the programme includes quantitative and analytical content, applicants should demonstrate numeracy and some experience of data analysis, statistics or economics. Applicants whose first language is not English will need to provide evidence of English language proficiency in line with the university's graduate admissions policies.
