What you'll study

This programme combines the core components of a qualifying LLB with modules in political science and international relations. In the early stages you will study foundational legal subjects such as contract law, criminal law, tort, public law (constitutional and administrative law), property and equity, together with skills-focused modules on legal methods, legal research and advocacy.

Politics modules cover topics such as British government and politics, political theory, comparative politics, international relations and public policy. As you progress you will be able to choose optional modules that reflect your interests — for example human rights, EU and comparative law, criminal justice policy, conflict and security, political economy and contemporary political ideas.

Typical course structure includes compulsory core law modules to satisfy qualifying law degree requirements, supported by politics modules across all years. In later stages you will take advanced options and can undertake an independent research project or dissertation which can bridge law and politics. Practical learning opportunities include mooting, client interviewing and participation in the university's legal advice or pro bono schemes, as well as seminars and workshops led by practitioners and visiting academics.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have completed secondary education equivalent to UK A-levels or an international qualification such as the International Baccalaureate. Typical entrants present three full A-levels or a recognised equivalent; relevant subjects include law, English, history or social sciences, but there is no single required subject. Mature students and those with vocational qualifications (for example Access to Higher Education) are welcome and assessed on their overall profile and potential for study.
