What you'll study

The programme combines core mathematics and applied operational subjects to develop skills in modelling, analysis and computational implementation. In the early years you study foundation modules such as calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, probability and statistics, and introductory programming. Core operations research topics appear from the second year onwards and typically include linear and nonlinear optimisation, integer programming, stochastic processes, simulation and queueing theory, decision analysis, and project planning and scheduling.

• Mathematical foundations: calculus, linear algebra, numerical methods.
• Probability and statistics: probability theory, statistical inference, regression and multivariate methods.
• Optimisation and modelling: linear programming, nonlinear optimisation, integer programming, network flows.
• Stochastic and dynamic models: Markov chains, queueing models, inventory models, reliability.
• Computational tools: algorithm design, simulation modelling, data analysis using languages/tools such as MATLAB, Python or similar.
• Application areas: operations management, supply chain and logistics, production planning, decision support systems.
• Final project and practicum: an independent graduation project applying OR methods to a practical problem and often an industry placement or lab-based capstone.

Entry requirements

Admission is normally through a recognised secondary school certificate with strong attainment in mathematics. Applicants typically need a high school diploma or equivalent (for example, the Saudi Tawjihi or international equivalents) with emphasis on mathematics courses. Some faculties require applicants to pass a university entrance assessment and/or meet minimum scores in English language proficiency where instruction or materials are in English.

Additional consideration may be given to candidates who have completed relevant preparatory programmes, have strong grades in science and mathematics, or who demonstrate programming experience.
