What you'll study

The programme builds from fundamental science and mathematics to specialised civil engineering topics through a combination of lectures, laboratory classes, design studios and fieldwork. Early study focuses on calculus, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing and computing, together with language and university studies. Core engineering modules then cover:

• Materials and Mechanics: Engineering mechanics, strength of materials, concrete and steel materials.
• Structural Engineering: Structural analysis, reinforced concrete design, steel design, prestressed concrete and finite element methods.
• Geotechnical Engineering: Soil mechanics, foundation engineering and slope stability.
• Transportation and Infrastructure: Highway and traffic engineering, pavement design and transportation planning.
• Water and Environmental Engineering: Hydraulics, hydrology, water resources, wastewater treatment and environmental impact considerations.
• Construction and Project Management: Construction methods, estimating, contracts, cost control, scheduling and construction site management.
• Technical and Practical Skills: Surveying, CAD and BIM, laboratory testing, instrumentation and field surveying techniques.
• Capstone and Training: A final-year design project or thesis plus an industrial training placement or internship to apply theory to real-world practice.

Students follow a structured progression from preparatory and foundational courses to advanced electives and a capstone design sequence in the final year.

Entry requirements

Applicants typically require a secondary school qualification with a science or engineering track, including strong performance in mathematics and physics. The university also looks for satisfactory performance on any national or university entrance assessments and may require proof of English proficiency for those whose previous instruction was not in English. Prospective students with relevant diplomas or transfer credit from other recognised institutions may be considered according to the college regulations.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for roles across the public and private sectors in construction, infrastructure and environmental works. Typical entry-level positions include site engineer, design engineer, structural designer, geotechnical engineer, transport planner, water resources engineer and construction project coordinator. With experience or further study, graduates progress to senior design and project management roles, consultancy, specialist technical roles (for example in seismic design or environmental remediation) or academic and research careers. Many graduates also pursue professional registration with national engineering bodies to practise as chartered or registered engineers.
