What you'll study

The programme emphasises advanced theoretical approaches in international relations and their historical contexts, together with applied learning. Students practise applying theory to real-world settings via field visits, guest lectures and simulations, and are trained in specialised research methodologies to design and implement advanced studies in international affairs. The programme also develops analytical, strategic planning, communication, negotiation and presentation skills required for diplomacy and external affairs management.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an institution recognised by Bahrain’s Ministry of Education. The undergraduate discipline must qualify the applicant for the programme; otherwise the department may require placement exams or supplementary bridging courses. A minimum cumulative GPA of “Good” (or equivalent) is required; applicants below this threshold may be referred to the Non-Admission Appeals Committee for possible conditional admission. Candidates must pass the university’s English placement test or submit a TOEFL-equivalent score (minimum 450), or else take a specified English course in the first year; graduates of programmes taught in English are exempt. Applicants must also pass a personal interview and meet any additional programme-specific requirements.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for roles in diplomacy (e.g. ministry postings and consular roles), government agencies, regional and international organisations, research centres and strategic analysis units. Other potential paths include positions as political or security advisors, officers in parliaments or representative councils, lecturers or researchers in political science and international relations, and media or communications roles that require specialist knowledge of geopolitics and foreign affairs.

Scholarships & funding angle

The published fee structure covers 36 credit hours and is payable by semester; part-time or supplemental costs (re-registration, remedial courses, textbooks) are additional. The university lists partial scholarships: a 10% partial scholarship for new applicants applicable to the first semester only and a 20% special scholarship for Applied Science University graduates during their first academic year. Seat availability is limited and priority is given to students who complete registration procedures early.
