What you'll study

The program totals 24 semester credits and centers on hospitality finance, operations, analytics and facility management alongside an internship. Core courses and topics include:

• ACC 2110 Principles of Accounting I — foundational accounting principles.
• HM 3020 Hospitality Managerial Accounting I and HM 3030 Hospitality Managerial Accounting II — managerial accounting for hospitality contexts.
• HM 3150 Hospitality Finance — finance applied to hospitality operations.
• HM 3400 Hotel Industry Analytics and HM 4400 Advanced Hotel and Tourism Analytics — use of data, forecasting and analytics for hotel/tourism decision making.
• HM 4150 Hospitality Revenue Management — budgeting, pricing strategies and revenue optimization.
• HM 4810R Internship — integrated practical experience with a hotel, restaurant, convention center or similar business.

Electives allow specialization; examples noted in the program description include Hospitality Law, Hospitality Leadership and Hospitality Ethics. The program also stresses soft skills such as problem‑solving, adaptability, teamwork and customer service excellence.

Entry requirements

• Completion of a minimum of 24 semester credits in the certificate.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Residency requirement: at least 6 credit hours must be completed through course attendance at UVU.

Career prospects

Graduates are positioned for supervisory and entry‑level management roles across hotels, resorts, theme parks, conference centers, restaurants, cruise lines and related hospitality operations. The program is intended to enable immediate career advancement or a pathway into a bachelor’s in hospitality or business administration.
