Programme overview

The Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Sonography is a 78 credit‑hour, roughly two‑year program accredited by CAAHEP and designed to combine classroom instruction, skills labs and clinical placements. The curriculum is divided into 28 credit hours of prerequisites and 50 credit hours of major coursework. Core sonography classes are taught at Baker College’s Owosso campus, with select program courses delivered via OnlineLive and general education/prerequisite courses available through Baker Online and other Michigan campuses.

What you'll study

The program emphasizes abdominal, obstetric/gynecologic and integrated vascular sonography alongside foundational sciences. Students complete human anatomy and physiology, three clinical experiences with required lab hours, and a capstone clinical course.

• Abdominal Sonography (DMS 1110) — covers normal and abnormal sonographic anatomy of the abdomen, retroperitoneum and major vascular structures; includes comparative pathology recognition; requires 30 hours lecture and 60 hours lab.
• OB/GYN Sonography (DMS 1210) — examines normal and abnormal female pelvic conditions, first‑trimester obstetrics and multiple gestations; students must achieve a B‑ or better to pass.
• Capstone Clinical III — final clinical course emphasizing mastery of scanning techniques and pathology identification; an 18‑week placement that includes 712 clinical hours. Students must earn 80% or higher in coursework and on evaluations to receive credit.
