See the degree grade →A fully online, year-long certificate for practicing educators who want to design inquiry-driven, experiential STEAM learning. Suited to teachers across age ranges seeking practical strategies for integrating science, technology, engineering, arts and math while continuing in current employment.
The curriculum trains educators in core practices such as inquiry-driven and experiential pedagogy and the use of authentic assessment for instruction and curriculum design. Coursework is practical and relevant to in-service teachers, combining online pedagogy with interactive methods (telephone, online conferencing, webinars) and small class sizes to support implementation in real classrooms. The program requires successful completion of a total of nine graduate credits, with one to two courses taken per term.
Applicants complete an online admissions application with essay questions and a resume/CV, and pay a non‑refundable $50 application fee. Official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions are required, and two letters of recommendation must be submitted from individuals able to evaluate professional or academic work (not relatives). Applicants selected may be interviewed by department faculty in person, by phone, or via Skype. Master’s and certificate programs do not require the GRE or other standardized tests. Additional requirements apply for international applicants and for those without a bachelor’s degree. Application deadlines are listed as April 15 (Summer), August 1 (Fall) and December 1 (Spring).
Graduates will be positioned to deepen classroom practice and to lead STEAM-focused curriculum development in a range of settings from early childhood through graduate-level instruction. The program is designed for educators who intend to apply experiential, inquiry-based learning and authentic assessment in their current teaching roles.
