What you'll study

Core subjects expose students to a broad IT foundation and applied topics. Areas explicitly covered by the programme include:

• Software development, including design, implementation, testing and maintenance of applications.
• Database management and secure, efficient information systems.
• Computer networks, network administration and infrastructure design.
• Cybersecurity and measures to identify and mitigate risks.
• Web technologies, mobile application development and digital solutions.
• Systems analysis and IT project management methodologies.
• Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data analytics.
• Practical training through laboratory sessions, industrial attachment/work-related learning and a final-year research project or dissertation.

Entry requirements

Normal entry requires at least five O-level passes including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least two relevant A-level passes or an equivalent recognised qualification. Applicants holding a relevant diploma or higher national diploma in Computing/IT may be considered for admission or advanced standing; a relevant diploma plus at least two years' work experience is specified as an alternative. Mature-entry applicants with appropriate qualifications or work experience may also be considered. All applicants must meet any additional institutional or regulatory requirements.

Graduates are prepared for a wide range of ICT roles such as Information Technology Officer, Systems Analyst, Software Developer, Web or Mobile Application Developer, Database or Network Administrator, Cybersecurity Analyst, IT Support Specialist, Systems Administrator, Cloud Computing Specialist, Data Analyst, IT Project Manager, Business/IT Consultant, Information Systems Manager, IT Auditor, IT Service Manager, digital solutions roles, or ICT lecturer/trainer subject to further qualifications. Employers include government departments, banks, telecoms, universities, hospitals, NGOs, technology firms, manufacturing and consulting organisations; the degree also supports entrepreneurship and postgraduate study.
