What you'll study

This is a full-time undergraduate programme delivered over a structured multi-year curriculum combining core engineering theory, laboratory practice, computer-aided design and hands-on projects. Early years build a foundation in mathematics, physics and fundamental engineering science; later years emphasise specialised mechanical topics, design projects and workplace experience.

• Core technical subjects: statics and dynamics, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and engineering mathematics.
• Design and manufacturing: computer-aided design (CAD), solid mechanics, manufacturing processes, materials engineering, product design and engineering drawing.
• Systems and controls: instrumentation, control systems, mechatronics and systems integration.
• Computational and simulation tools: numerical methods, MATLAB, finite element analysis and other industry-standard simulation and modelling packages.
• Laboratory and practical work: strength of materials labs, thermofluids labs, materials testing, manufacturing workshops and prototype development.
• Professional and project work: engineering management, project planning, ethics, sustainability, team-based design projects and a final-year capstone design project.
• Industry exposure: practical industrial training or internships and opportunities for collaborative projects with local industry partners.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to hold a recognised secondary school qualification with strong achievement in mathematics and physics or equivalent preparatory study. Candidates who complete a foundation year in science and mathematics may progress to the degree. All applicants must demonstrate English language ability appropriate for degree-level study; Abu Dhabi University accepts recognised English-language qualifications and equivalents.

Selection may also consider performance in interviews, entrance tests or candidate portfolios where applicable. Mature applicants with relevant technical experience can be considered through the university's alternative admission routes.
