What you'll study

This program combines core social work theory, evidence‑based practice and applied field education. You will study human development and social determinants of wellbeing, social policy and welfare systems, social work ethics and legal frameworks, and research methods for practice. Practice-focused units cover engagement and assessment, intervention with individuals, families and groups, community development, advocacy and case management.

• Foundations of social work: history of social welfare, ethics, professional roles and reflective practice.
• Human behaviour and diversity: lifespan development, trauma-informed practice, working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Practice skills: interviewing, assessment, intervention planning, group work, family therapy approaches and crisis intervention.
