What you'll study

The honours program comprises advanced study in educational theory, research methods and a substantial independent research project (honours thesis) under academic supervision. Typical topics you will engage with include qualitative and quantitative research design, educational enquiry, advanced assessment and curriculum studies, contemporary issues in pedagogy, and ethical practice in research with children and young people.

Study usually involves a combination of coursework units that build research literacy and methodological competence, plus an extended research project where you design, conduct and report original research. You will be supported to develop a literature review, select appropriate methods, analyse data and present findings in formats suitable for publication or professional dissemination.

Entry requirements

• A completed Bachelor of Education or equivalent undergraduate qualification in education is normally required.
• Applicants must demonstrate appropriate academic achievement in their prior degree; specific academic thresholds are set by the university and considered at time of application.
• Selection may also consider the suitability of the proposed research topic and availability of an academic supervisor within the School of Education.
• Candidates may need to meet professional suitability checks for placement work where applicable, which can include a Working with Children check and a national police check.
• International applicants should meet the university's English language requirements and provide evidence of prior qualifications equivalence.
