What you'll study

Teaching combines applied theory, simulation-based learning and practice-based action learning. The programme uses a case-based approach and requires completion of 2,300 hours of clinical practice across the three years of the professional programme. Students train in specialist facilities including a nursing simulation suite (six-bed ward, GP consulting room, nurse's treatment room, care home bedroom and simulation mannequins) and have access to nutrition and biomedical science laboratories. Practice placements are provided through partner NHS trusts and a range of health and social care providers (including hospice services, community primary care, prison service, nursing homes and private sector settings). The teaching team comprises registered nurses with practice and/or research experience alongside clinical educators from partner trusts.

Entry requirements

The published UCAS tariff for entry is 48 points. The course advertises flexible entry options and includes a four-year route with a foundation year for applicants without the relevant qualifications or experience; the foundation year is described as the health, sport and social sciences foundation year to prepare students for progression onto the degree.

Career prospects

Successful graduates are eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and work as registered adult nurses in primary, acute or private healthcare, and overseas. Career paths noted include roles in charity or aid work, the armed forces and the prison service. With experience, nurses can progress to advanced practice and non-medical prescribing, nurse education and teaching, or healthcare management roles such as charge nurse, lead nurse and consultant nurse; many graduates move into management across private, voluntary and independent sectors.
