What you'll study

The program builds clinical competencies in assessment and diagnosis, evidence-based intervention and treatment, and group therapy. Faculty bring experiences in somatic therapy, relational cultural therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing. Training also covers social policy, social and ecological justice issues, practice evaluation, interdisciplinary simulation-based learning, and skills for rural mental health practice.

Entry requirements

Two program tracks accommodate different academic backgrounds: Regular Standing for students without a BSW (63 credits; minimum 900 practicum hours; typical length two years) and Advanced Standing for students with a BSW (38 credits; minimum 450 practicum hours; can be completed in as little as one year). Online access with broadband is required to participate in coursework and live classes.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for advanced clinical social work roles and for pursuing Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) licensure. The curriculum supports work as clinical therapists, practitioners in rural mental health settings, and members of interdisciplinary teams addressing individual, family, group and community wellbeing.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Tuition is listed per credit (tuition: $777/credit for the 2026–27 academic year). The program notes a $23,000 HRSA Stipend Grant as a funding opportunity to ask an admissions counselor about. Additional one-time and recurring program fees include a $44 background-check fee, a $215 Tevera practicum tool fee, a $50/year St. Louis County conference registration, and a $50 pinning-ceremony fee.
