What you'll study

Study combines core and advanced political science topics to build knowledge of international relations, public policy and political processes. The programme specification includes 45 courses totalling 135 credit hours; students follow a study plan and course descriptions provided in the programme brochure. The course structure aims to produce graduates familiar with basic and advanced branches of political science and equipped with practical, communication and critical-thinking skills.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a Secondary School Certificate or equivalent certified by the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain with an average of at least 60%. Candidates with averages below 60% may be admitted if they are internationally representing athletes or artists, or have at least one year of practical experience after secondary school; such admissions cannot exceed 20% of admitted students and the University Council may also approve exceptions. Applicants from non-scientific secondary school tracks must pass remedial courses as determined by the department.

All admitted students must sit a compulsory English test set by the university: scores 0–40 require ENG 099 (Remedial English); scores 41–120 place students in ENG 101 (English Language 1). A student is exempt from ENG 099 with an IELTS score of 5 or higher or a TOEFL score of 450 or higher.

The programme targets positions in diplomatic service, media, research centres, international institutions, civil society and both public and private sectors.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Tuition is structured around the 135 credit-hour programme. The published fee per credit hour is 92.7 BD; estimated fees per semester are 1,390.5 BD (first and second semesters) with an annual total shown as 2,781 BD. Summer enrollment is optional with the same per-credit rate and a maximum of 9 summer credit hours. Partial academic excellence scholarships apply for the first semester only: 30% for high school averages 95–100% and 15% for averages 90–94.9%. The university notes fees may vary depending on registered courses and that semester payments are collected in three instalments; other fees and refund policies are available in the university tuition policy document.
