What you'll study

The curriculum is practical and modular; topics and credentials vary by course.

• Industrial Electrical and Mechanical Systems (Course 1) — 15 weeks. Topics: maintenance operations, electronics theory and circuits, mechanical and electrical component basics, motors and drives, and industry safety. Completion awards a college certificate and opportunities to earn OSHA 10 (General Industry), ETA Certified Electronics Technician plus multiple SACA credentials (C-101, C-201, C-202, C-204, C-206, C-210) that map toward Smart Automation Certification Alliance “Electrical Systems Specialist.” Students might earn credits toward A.S. degrees in Industry Management and Supervision or Electronics Engineering Technology.
• Fluid Power and Programmable Logic Controllers (Course 2) — 15 weeks. Topics: industry safety, pneumatic and hydraulic power systems, circuits, valves, PLC operation, programming and troubleshooting. Completion provides a college certificate and opportunities for OSHA 10 and several SACA credentials (C-203, C-205, C-207, C-208, C-209, C-211, C-255) leading toward SACA “Control Systems Specialist.” Course 1 is a prerequisite for Course 2.
• Mechatronics Apprenticeship — one-year structured apprenticeship combining on-the-job training with classroom instruction in mechanical, electronic and programming elements (industrial maintenance and automation).
• Other available short programs include America’s Cutting Edge (ACE) CNC Bootcamp, Precision Machining, CAM for Machinists, Manufacturing Technician, Fundamentals of Fiber Optics, Quality Control & Inspection Technician, Automated Supply Chain Maintenance.

Entry requirements

Most Advanced Manufacturing short courses have no prerequisites; specifically, Industrial Electrical and Mechanical Systems (Course 1) has no prerequisites and is open to register. Fluid Power and PLCs (Course 2) requires completion of Industrial Electrical and Mechanical Systems. Enrollment follows a pre-registration step and payment; individual course pages list tuition and scheduling.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for entry and advancement in roles such as industrial maintenance technician, electro-mechanical systems technician, automation or mechatronics technician, maintenance mechanic, and related positions. The training targets automated production, distribution and supply-chain environments and is applicable across sectors including food processing, IT/data centers, automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical manufacturing, agriculture and defense. IRSC highlights local employer relationships with companies such as FedEx Ground, Niagara Bottling and Walmart Distribution as direct hiring pathways.
