A career-focused program that trains students to work under pharmacist supervision in community and institutional settings. Suited to applicants seeking hands-on technical pharmacy work and preparation for state registration and national certification.

What you'll study

Coursework covers pharmacology and medication calculations and includes supervised practical training components. Students complete hands-on placements (externships) in a community pharmacy and an institutional pharmacy. The program also builds personal, leadership and career skills through student involvement in the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter.

Entry requirements

Selection for the Pharmacy Technician program is first-come, first-served based on completion of the requirements set out in the Pharmacy Technician Application Booklet. The published application window is June 1, 2026 through October 19, 2026 for a Spring 2027 start. Note that illicit drug use, background check findings, criminal convictions and immunization status can affect ability to complete externships or obtain employment; externship sites and employers may impose their own rules. Additional required documents and health forms are referenced in program materials.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for employment in retail pharmacies, hospitals or nursing facilities and may be eligible to obtain a Registered Pharmacy Technician license in Florida. Completion of the program makes graduates eligible to apply to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam; the PTCB notes additional requirements such as possession of a valid form of identification. Certified pharmacy technicians are in demand and typically earn higher pay than non-certified peers.
