What you'll study

The curriculum combines classroom theory with supervised clinical practice and a mandatory internship. Instruction and supervised practice cover:

• examination room techniques and patient care
• assisting with minor surgical procedures
• administration of medications
• phlebotomy (drawing blood) and other laboratory techniques
• electrocardiography (EKG)
• diagnostic procedures
• medical office administration: scheduling, patient records and insurance forms

The program includes a supervised, uncompensated internship in a physician’s office or other approved facility and a 170‑hour mandatory clinical rotation held during daytime hours. Full‑time day students attend Monday through Friday for roughly 6–8 hours per day.

Entry requirements

Admissions are selective. The published application window for the listed intake runs January 11, 2027 through June 14, 2027 with a Fall 2027 start; other published materials note application periods that typically open in January. Student eligibility to apply to sit for the Medical Assisting Certification in Florida is defined in Florida Statute 458.3485 and requires possession of a valid form of identification. If you plan to practice or seek certification outside Florida, confirm with that state’s licensing authority whether this program meets their requirements.

Career prospects

Successful graduates are prepared for entry‑level medical assisting roles in physician offices, outpatient clinics, hospitals and similar facilities. Completion makes students eligible to take the CMA (AAMA) exam; the program reports a higher‑than‑average pass rate. Typical day‑to‑day duties after graduation include clinical support (phlebotomy, EKG, assisting procedures), medication administration under supervision, patient education and administrative tasks such as scheduling and billing support.
